REFRAME at SIDISA International Symposium on Environmental Engineering
SIDISA 2024 (XII International Symposium on Environmental Engineering) in Palermo is a premier event for environmental engineering professionals, addressing topics related to water, air, soil, and waste management. The symposium highlights advanced treatment technologies, sustainable development, the circular economy, and climate change mitigation. It serves as a platform for sharing scientific research and practical experiences, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and professionals. Discussions will range from cutting-edge research to the design and management of treatment plants, and concepts for the cities of the future, with technical sessions focusing on key environmental challenges.
At SIDISA XII 2024, Dr. Federico Micolucci will present key findings from the REFRAME project, focusing on innovative wastewater treatment and resource recovery technologies. Federico’s presentation, titled “Glucose Production from Cellulosic Sludge: Innovating Wastewater Recovery“, will cover advanced biological treatments for urban wastewater and takes place on October 2nd at 14:15.
The talk will present the outcomes of WP1 from the REFRAME project and some preliminary results from WP2. The work emphasizes optimizing energy consumption in urban wastewater treatment plants, aligning with the latest European directive (2024). By employing rotating filters for initial wastewater screening, the approach retains cellulose as Cellulosic Primary Sludge (CPS) without chemical precipitants. Federico will also discuss early experiments on controlled fermentation of CPS to produce volatile fatty acids, showcasing its potential for further innovations in wastewater recovery.
“Looking forward to sharing these insights with the community and advancing the conversation on sustainable wastewater management!”
